Can Candy

This neat-o Mt. Dew can (er, bottle, since it is aluminum) is just one of many that recently caught my eye in the food aisle of a Super Wal-Mart.

It’s apparently a part of the third installment of Green Label Art, a promo for the Dew that gets current artists--whose canvases span from fine art to video games to graffiti—to put their pen, brush, or spray can to different bottle designs.

Although this isn’t an amazing idea in itself by any means (it's well-worn at best), it complements this high-octane jolt juice pretty well. Not to mention: the can above was designed by Claw Money, a pretty awesome moniker, I must say--so I am a fan. It now lives happily atop my fridge amid its beer bottle brethren.

Hans, Franz, and extraterrestrials

If you were to take a look at an old postcard filled with the Alpine, pastoral scenery reminiscent of Ricola or The Sound of Music, chances are you wouldn’t think it’s missing a mothership. However, one can’t say the same for an artist/designer guy named Franco Brambilla. His peculiar series of “Invading the Vintage”—which he describes as “cute aliens invading grandpa’s postcards”—is a surreal marriage of two things that couldn’t be less related (and therefore, bizarrely interesting).

It kind of reminds me of a series of posters that presented spam email messages as art. This, too, inspires tension (although more within the idea than the images). I mean, who wouldn't stare if Viagra showed up at MoMA?
